I passed, I passed!! Yayyyy!!!
I passed my December exams!! Yeayyy! Whew!
Thank goodness...after the horrible horrible 2nd exam paper, I made it. S for my 'What' strand, M for my 'How' strand (super surprising, honestly!) God is good lah, seriously :) Thank you everyone for putting up with my un-ending whining about how cruel the exams were.
That aside, we started our SSCs this week. I'm doing Perioperative & Critical Care now (i.e. anaesthesia, in a nutshell). Haven't really got around to being a lot in (operating) theatres yet, coz we went for this CCRISP course the last few days. (CCRISP = Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient) It was meant for SHOs or F2s or ST1/2s, but 2 nurses who were supposed to be there as observers couldn't make it, so me and Viks were lucky enough to get the places. Learnt quite a lot of useful things, and most of it weren't too far above our heads, so that we managed to understand most of what was taught and told. Very interesting, useful & pretty enjoyable too, except that it was pretty long days la (finish at 6pm, start at 8am = LONG DAY).
The communication skills part of the course was scary lar. How to deal with patients, how to break bad news, how to deal with your (sometimes frustrating & grumpy) consultants and peers!! Arrrr...not looking forward to this next time. Other than that, it was basically alot of drumming the system of approaching your critcally ill surgical patient into your head, which by now I can regurgitate too --> ABCDE, Full Hx & Ex, Chart review, reassess --> stable/unstable -->daily Mx plan vs Further Ix & getting senior help.
ABCDEs basically stands for -->
A-Airway (patent airway? O2 sats, give O2),
B-Breathing (RR, depth of expansion, symmetry, percussion, air entry),
C-Circulation (PR&Rhythm, BP, Temp, Cap refill, ?ECG, Fluid input/output, BMs, ?Bloods, ?ABGs),
D-Dysfunction of CNS (AVPU, Pupils),
E-Exposure (Wounds, stomas, bleeding)
See, I learnt (and remembered) something! ;D We also learnt about pain management & sepsis & SIRS & renal fxn & etc....but I shall leave all those for another day .>_<.
Oh well, enough of blabbing today. Here's a 'joke of the day' I got from one forward mail...enjoy!

Subject: Joke Story: Boobs & Willies
A family were sitting around the supper table.
The son asked his father, "Dad, how many kinds of breasts are there?"
The father surprised, answered, "Well, son, there are three kinds of breasts.
In her twenties, a women's breasts are like melons, round and firm.
In her thirties to forties, they have looked like pears, still nice but hanging a bit.
After fifty, they are like onions."
"Onions?"
" Yes, see them and they'll make you cry."
This infuriated the wife and daughter, so the daughter said:
"Mum, how many kinds of willies are there?"
The mother, surprised, smiled and looked at her daughter and answered,
"Well, dear, a man goes through three phases.
In a man's twenties, his Willy is like an oak tree, mighty and hard.
In his thirties and forties, it is like a birch, flexible but reliable.
After his fifties, it is like a Christmas Tree."
" A Christmas tree?"
"Yes, of course, dead from the root up and the balls are for decoration only."
"Ooo... what a pity.... Only decoration, Dad?"
