The weekend is here...again!
Hmmm...times flies. I still remember posting last weekend with the title 'Weekend' like it was just yesterday. Eeeppp...maybe time flies abit too fast la. This means exams are approaching soon. And I'm soooo not ready for it yet. Macam mana leh? Matiiiiii....Went to watch The Prestige on Wednesday with my kaypoh-kong, Sarah & Dipz. We got tickets for only £2.65 each using the Orange 2for1 thingy. Quite worth it la. Definitely worth the watch, but only if you have the ability to pay attention for 2 hours 15 mins or so. And I mean continuous attention, coz if you miss a minute of the show, you pretty much get lost in the storyline/plot. Cannot go tandas if you're watching it in the cinema. Not recommended for people with short attention span (or poor bladder control, for that matter).
The movie is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Christopher Priest, and follows
mostly the same storyline until a certain point, where it takes on a slightly different direction. 'The Prestige' is actually a term made up by the author, coined from the word 'prestidigitation'.
Sleight of hand, also known as prestidigitation ('quick fingers') or legerdemain (from the French for 'lightness of hand'), is the set of techniques used by a magician(or card sharp) to manipulate objects such as cards and coins secretly. Sleight of hand is not a branch of magic, but rather the means used by a magician to achieve magical effects. The techniques involved are sometimes difficult and may need months or years of practice before they can be performed proficiently. (source: Wikipedia)What's it about? It's about 2 magicians (The Great Danton vs The Professor) and their obsession with finding out how the other person does his ultimate illusion/trick, 'The Original/New/Real Transported Man'. And their obsession drives their rivalry to no ends, including secrecy, sacrifice, sabotage & death. Talk about 'misdirection'. Who lives and who dies in the end? Whose version of the Transported Man ultimately predominates? Who was right and who was wrong? Who made the ultimate sacrifice in The Prestige, (the final stage of the act after The Pledge and The Turn)? You'll leave the cinema theatre discussing all that and more. Very intriguing movie. Highly recommended! Don't Wikipedia it unless you don't mind spoilers for the show! You have been warned!
Oh, by the way, we got allocated our Base Units for 5th year today. I got my first choice, which is Tyne. That's one thing settled. Now where is Charlie boy gonna apply for his F1 post leh? Only time will tell. Have to look for new house/housemates in the near future. Argghkk. So malas to pindah. But have to la. Dowan to continue staying in such a big house (although I love my housemates...well, most of them, most of the time. Hahahah...). Any offers out there?
Su Ann will be cooking up a storm over in Brighton Grove tomorrow, while Chia Ying is already cooking up a storm now for dinner tomorrow (well, technically it's already today) night in our kitchen now (now = 3am!). Feast! Yum yum. But I haven't been to the gym the whole week. No gym, no swimming, no badminton. Damn. Too lazy. Next week HAVE to go. Well, at least I still went for the dance sessions. That should count for something. Right? Right...! ;D Hmmm...I don't sound very convincing, do I?
My *@%$"£ stupid nose still gets blardi congested EVERY SINGLE night. Pengsan!! Benci benci benci. And it gets dark so early now every day. I can feel SAD coming on already soon. (SAD = Seasonal Affective Disorder, i.e. feeling down & in a depressed-like mood when the seasons change, when it becomes gloomy, cold & dark all the time *sigh*) Cheer me up, somebody?
