Yokatta!

yokatta = an expression of relief; this is the past tense of "ii" (good) so it literally means "that was good", but it usually translates as "I'm so glad" or "thank goodness!"

The viva list came out online around 4pm this afternoon. My heart was pounding 1000 beats a minute and my nerves were a complete wreck as I opened the spreadsheet file to check if my candidate number was on the list. It's listed in numerical order and as I quicly scan the numbers just above and below my candidate number on the pass-fail list, I heaved a sigh of relief, noting that my number wasn't printed. Unconvinced, I double- and triple-checked it just to be absolutely sure. Yokatta! I did not even bother to check the distinction viva list as I knew I had not done well enough in the previous OSCE as well as on my rotations to be able to get on that list, but no matter, I was 99% sure that I had passed the 3rd year of medical school now. Why only 99% sure? Well, technically the official grades list only comes out tomorrow evening after the vivas, and then and only then can I be absolutely 100% sure that I have not failed 3rd year. But for the next 24 hours, I'll have to make do with 99%. On the bright side though, none of the Malaysian's made the pass-fail viva list (but none made the distinction list either, although I think no one's really too bothered about that tho...) 3rd year was a toughie!

In the last 36 hours, I've only slept a mere half hour (this morning around 11am-11.30am). I couldn't sleep the whole night, just did not feel like sleeping at all. Maybe I was too anxious about the 'results' today, and my subconscious mind was keeping me awake. Anyway, I spent the whole night watching 25 episodes (1 whole season) of a shoujo ('girly') anime on youtube, each episode lasting about 20-25 minutes. Crazy eh. Hence the term 'yokatta', which is commonly used in manga/anime language. ;)

My room is STILL in a tornado-inspired mess, and it really doesn't help when you have one person trying to clean up and rearrange two people's mess, and two junk-loving, trash-collecting people at that. :P Oh well, the girls are coming over to stay tomorrow night, so everything had better be sorted by then, fingers crossed! My brain, on the other hand, is nearing shut-down mode now due to lack of sleep, so I shall stop writing now before it turns ugly (or fugly...). Oyasuminasai minna, ganbatte & genki da ne for tomorrow's result! ^o^
